There are 5 steps to The HOME Program, which help guide you
through the process of purchasing a new home.
The HOME Program covers education, financial help and advice,
referral to mortgage and homeownership experts, financial aid and
post-purchase support.
Counseling and follow-up are important steps of the program,
ensuring that households have the resources needed to move towards,
achieve and sustain home ownership.
Education
The program starts with 2 meetings where you can learn about how
to buy a home. Anyone can come to these meetings.
At the first meeting, you learn about The HOME Program - what it
is and what it can do for you.
At the second meeting, you will learn more about each thing you
need to do when you buy a home and things you need to consider once
you've moved into your new home.
Individual Support and Advice
Afer you have completed the Educational sessions if you think
you want to buy a home, you can get one-on-one help from the
program. You will be talking to some home experts to find out just
what you need to do. They will help you put together a team of
experts to help you with your purchase.
Down Payment Assistance
Many people who try to buy a home have a problem with the down
payment. It can be thousands of dollars and many people do not have
the means to save up enough money on their own. The HOME Program
can help you. You may be eligible to receive up to $3000 to put
towards your down payment and closing costs.
Underwriting
The HOME Programs works with you and lenders to get you a
mortgage that you can afford to make the payments on.
Building on Success
After you buy your new home, the program can help you to learn
how to manage your bills and to find people to fix things in the
home. If you have a worry about the home, you do not have to feel
alone. The HOME Program is there for you until you feel sure of
yourself as a homeowner.
